The Beauty Myth by Naomi Wolf “How might women act beyond the myth? Who can say?… Maybe the less pain women inflict on our bodies, the more beautiful our bodies will look to us. Perhaps we will forget to elicit admiration from strangers, and find that we don’t miss it; perhaps we will await our older faces with anticipation, and be unable to see our bodies as a mass of imperfections,...

Don’t wait for an outside voice to tell you that you’re beautiful as you were, as you are, and as you will be. You need to hear it from yourself.

Israeli law bans underweight models in ads →
Here’s the news… now was it the right step? The intentions are positive, but they are ostracizing a small, albeit equally important, group of women who are very thin when healthy. It is meant to attack media standards in order to try to save lives, but is this the way to do it? Will it be effective? It is certainly controversial, but only time can tell. For now all we can tell is that...

Habits: How They Form And How To Break Them →
“What we know from lab studies is that it’s never too late to break a habit. Habits are malleable throughout your entire life. But we also know that the best way to change a habit is to understand its structure — that once you tell people about the cue and the reward and you force them to recognize what those factors are in a behavior, it becomes much, much easier to change.”

When you learn to appreciate the world and everything in it, with all of its flaws and differences… You see beauty. Why don’t you see that when you look in the mirror?

Your body is no better and no worse than another’s: because it’s yours, yours only, and there will never be another you. You have no flaws because there is nothing to compare yourself to. You are beautiful because you’re you!

A Reminder
You’re standing in front of a mirror. Naked. Bare. What do you see? There’s flesh and bone, some hair, more curvature than you can view from the front. Tiny birth marks adorn your skin and scars sew it back together.  Look at yourself-really, look. What is in front of you? Is it a machine to be hated and hurt? Is it a friend that keeps your soul alive, one that you put down day after day? Maybe we...

I dare you to...
challenge judgmental statements when you see or hear them. Don’t be afraid to speak up! If your voice is strong and confident, no matter how loud or how soft, it will be heard.

Be honest yet gentle with strangers: you do not know who they truly are, where they are from, and what they are experiencing. Keep your judgments aside. Be more honest and more gentle with your friends: they are a part of you, but you will never know them fully. Remember that. Keep them safe and you will be keeping a part of yourself safe too.

Random tip: Cool wrists!
For many urges and situations- from binge eating to self harm to panic attacks- cold water can help tame how you are feeling and snap you back to reality. When you find yourself caught in a high stress situation, find the nearest faucet, make the water as freezing as possible, and run it over your wrists for a few seconds. Close your eyes and don’t look in the mirror. Just feel.

Why do you want to recover? For me, I’m tired of the sleepless nights. The intense, uncontrollable urges. The shame, the guilt, the pain, the sadness, the anger. I’m tired of breathing in the toxic fumes of my disorder. I’m in recovery for a reason- I want my life back. I want my family back, my friends back, my mind and body back, my passion back.  Most of all I want to grow...

Hey- don't be afraid to seek support!
Especially if you are a young adult, it is the perfect time to get help or find a professional to talk to. So many bad habits form during this time but they don’t have to be solidified. Think to the future: do you want to see yourself hurt and suffering this way? Some things cannot be changed, but many can. The first and most important factor to target is the way that you think to the best...

The only person you should truly depend on for positive change and recovery is yourself. Others can help but they can also hurt you. Find the strength in yourself to become healthy and happy. It’s there inside all of us, it just takes some people a bit longer to find it.

DON’T HURT YOURSELF OVER THE MISTAKES YOU MAKE. There is someone out there who loves you to the ends of the Earth, whether you know it or not. Don’t let them down and more importantly- don’t let yourself down. Breathe and take it easy, life is beautiful. So are you. <3 If you ever need to talk, please don’t hesitate to message me.

Some days, it seems as though you are placed on display in others’ eyes.  The second you leave your room, it starts to hurt.  People appraise you like some foreign jewel that they cannot understand.  They cringe at what they don’t understand and end up criticizing you.  Each action is under scrutiny by someone else.  They act like they know everything about your body and how it should...
